Browsing New York City’s Best

New York, the city that never sleeps, has literally hundreds of attractions for the visitor, and a good way to see the sights is with a charter bus, coach bus, party bus, mini bus, passenger coaches or school bus hired from Coach Bus New York City. But have you ever thought about where the locals go when they want to see the sights of the Big Apple? Sure, everyone knows Times Square and Broadway, but what sights and attractions do local New Yorkers enjoy?
One of these is Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Site of the 1954 World’s Fair, Flushing Meadows is instantly recognizable as you set out of your hired coach or bus. This massive green space, and the New York State Pavilion, along with the 140 foot high Unisphere, were the backdrop for the climactic scene in “Men in Black”. When you’re at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, drop in the Queens Museum of Art. This museum house the Panorama of the City of New York, an enormous scale model of New York. See how many of New York’s famous landmarks you can identify when visiting the Queen’s Museum of Art in your rental coach.
New York is most known for its iconic skyline and bridges. Hundreds of movies have used New York City itself as a backdrop, and in some cases, as a character in itself. A great vantage point to view the city skyline is from across the river at Brooklyn Heights and Brooklyn Promenade. Fine weather sees New Yorkers strolling across the promenade, taking in the view. If you move a little further south down the Promenade, you’ll get a view of the Statue of Liberty. A great place for a morning or evening stroll with the family, and nearby vendors serve hot dogs and refreshments.
For another famous movie location, get in your hired coach and head over to the Bronx Zoo. Home to more than 5,000 animals, the Bronx Zoo is a firm New York favorite. Feature exhibits include the Sea Lion Pool, an outdoor baboon reserve and an exhibit dedicated to Madagascar, the island namesake of the famous movie that featured 4 animals escaping from the Bronx Zoo. Take a ride on the Wild Asia Monorail, that cruises over 38 acres of the Zoo, showcasing elephants, tigers, antelope, deer and Mongolian wild horses. If the weather isn’t co-operative, step inside one of the many covered attractions, such as House of Birds, World of Reptiles or Mouse House.
No visit to New York is complete without taking a ride on the Cyclone at Coney Island. For decades a popular weekend getaway for New Yorkers, Coney Island’s fairground attractions offer a nostalgic look at New York’s past. The Fulton Fish Market and South Street Seaport is also worth a visit. If you’re not keen on the maddening crowds, skip Fulton’s entirely and head for the pier itself. Tour the largest fleet of privately historic ships, and then pop into one of the many bars and restaurants.
